The Chelmsford City racecourse is situated 10.3 miles from the town centre, at Great Leighs, is a brand new racecourse, in fact, the first new racecourse in UK since 1927. This thoroughbred horse racing centre kicked off in 2015, and has a host of existing races arrayed up for 2016. There are several food options at the venue, and it offers a good way to spend a day out in the countryside. There is an array of 58 fixtures, including afternoon, twilight and evening meetings, running through December 2016.  
 
A few exciting accompanying events listed during the season include Comedy Night with Sara Pascoe and guests on 29th January 2016, and Simple Red Concert on 1st July 2016.
